Bałagan Gallery

Bałagan Gallery

The Balagan Gallery was born from a need to find a place that merges broadly understood urban art and street art with conceptual and contemporary art. The starting point was the opportunity to adapt an old courtyard and a floor of a tenement house at 4 Zwierzyniecka Street in Krakow. In this way, we obtained a site-specific organism, receptive to various types of interventions and bold projects. We deeply believe that art in today’s world does not need salons; it needs quality, content, and value, which are constituted by its audience. This natural use of the courtyard’s fabric, combined with the street’s infrastructure and our friendly surroundings, creates an incredible and unique atmosphere, a place that is good for art.

Our goal is to connect different generations and artistic disciplines, creating a hub for international artist exchange within Krakow. As the founder, I emphasize the enduring value of dialogue and understanding, and the building of relationships as key to sustaining healthy human connections, where often opposing ideas must coexist and find common ground. It is on the foundation of this belief in dialogue, kindness, and good practices that this gallery was established.

Our gallery is divided into two zones: external and internal.
The external zone (marked in white on the map) encompasses the courtyard space, where both permanent and temporary artistic interventions are realized. Numbers 1 through 15 indicate the locations of past projects.
The internal zone (marked in blue) is located on the first floor of the tenement building. This approximately 80 m² space hosts thematic temporary exhibitions.

By participating in our program, you can submit a project for an exhibition inside the gallery or propose a permanent artistic intervention in the courtyard space. We only accept proposals that directly respond to the specified theme of the project, or submissions from artists we have personally selected for collaboration.
