About the Exhibition

Curatorial text:

The exhibition Tween Peaks refers to a state of “in-between” — a space of transition, suspension, and negotiation of meaning, where personal experience encounters the memory of a place and pre-existing cultural structures.

The exhibition is situated within Dom Doktora, a 121-year-old architectural landmark built in the Zakopane style at the foot of the Tatra Mountains. The invited artists intervene within the domestic space — the house, gallery rooms, garden, dining area, and the former doctor’s study — treating them as an integral field of artistic and narrative action.

It is a space of secrecy. A place where everyday objects, interior arrangements, and the architecture itself become the backdrop to a story — a rugged journey toward freedom and toward establishing oneself within a world already named and constructed.

This narrative echoes a coming-of-age process: the gradual rooting of a young organism within a reality that is pre-occupied and pre-ordered. As much as the structure of the old house, the presence of ancestral spirits, and the long shadow of the psychedelic Tatra landscape can offer clarity or structure, the exhibition ultimately foregrounds the figure of the human being as a wanderer — one who weaves their own story into the history of the time in which they come to appear.
