On October 4th, the opening of Bałagan Gallery took place—a new, independent artistic space run by Piotr Kolanko in collaboration with Adrianna Gajdziszewska. The gallery is located in an old tenement building at 4 Zwierzyniecka Street in Krakow, where the courtyard and first floor have become a site of intense artistic activity, blending the character of a temporary studio, an alternative salon, and an experimental exhibition space.
The inauguration of Bałagan featured the exhibition „Uban² Pigeon,” continuing a series of shows previously organized by the artists. Piotr Kolanko invited creators from Poland and abroad, dividing the exhibition into interventions in the courtyard space and three exhibition rooms on the first floor.
The opening included performances by Władysław Markowski and Magdalena Kościsz—during the event, the curator himself, in line with the exhibition’s concept, was tattooed while delivering the inaugural speech.
The exhibition will run until November 8th and will conclude with a finissage combined with a meeting with the artists at 6:00 PM.
Gallery opening hours:
Monday and Wednesday: 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Saturday and Sunday: 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Curatorial text for the exhibition:
For the second time, we’re going underground to dig up the most interesting artistic trends in Krakow. Once again, we’re proving that the underground is the new mainstream. We tend to wash down difficult matters with Xanax and chase it with Red Bull. We’re showcasing art that stands against current trends, prevailing moods, and social climates.
The project takes the form of an intervention in the courtyard space of the tenement at Zwierzyniecka 4. We’ll be observing this situation from the perspective of a pigeon—a multi-layered growth on Krakow’s urban tissue that constitutes the landscape, enriching it with the character of a devastating observer.
This raises the fundamental question about the role of art, the role of destruction, opposition, and total slackness combined with a „couldn’t-care-less” lifestyle. We invite you to sample familiar and yet-unknown creators in a new light.
